Friends of Hill Forest

by admin last modified 2007-12-31 10:13
The 2,450 acre Hill Demonstration Forest, located in northern Durham County, is a teaching forest held by NC State University for the main purpose of educating students of forestry within the College of Natural Resources.  It is self-sustaining through logging and timber sales.  At present one can purchase a permit for recreational use and access to the Forest - but this could change.

In response to increased liability created by instituting a fee-for-access program, and concerns about water quality as affected by trail use and erosion, the Forest Management is considering measures that could close the Forest entirely to the public recreational community.

Friends of Hill Forest was formed to prevent this from happening.  We believe that all of the issues presented to us by Forestry Management are solvable within the framework of a sound recreational protocol which we want to help facilitate.  This is our mission.

Join us to keep Hill Forest Open!
